What do the members of AzPHA do?

AzPHA is a membership organization that relies on our members to fulfill its mission to protect and promote the public's health through education, advocacy, and programs.  There are many ways for members to participate:

  • Join and attend committees or section meetings. AzPHA works by members being actively engaged in their sections to help bring issues to the boards attention through the section chair.  We also have a very active legislative committee that helps to advise the board on legislative policy issues facing the public health system.
  • Attend monthly Board meetings.  As a member of the Association you are permitted to attend board meetings and stay abreast on the latest action within the association.
  • Advocate for public health legislation at the state and national level, and provide expert testimony during legislative hearings. We also educate policy makers and decision makers regarding public health concerns. Members are encouraged to participate in the legislative committee in order to bring forward the multitude of public health issues facing our state.  Without our members, we may miss important public health policy issues.

As an association, we support grassroots coalitions and community efforts in favor of improved public health, publish reports and white papers such as our “Living and Dying in Arizona” series, collaborate with other health-related organizations, and provide speakers, workshops and forums on public health issues.

AzPHA works to bring national speakers from the American Public Health Association (APHA), and other well-respected institutions to present at our conferences.. AzPHA is a nationally recognized affiliate of APHA and is the largest professional health association in Arizona. Click on Conferences for more information on our next scheduled conference.
