AzPHA Professional Development Webinars

The AzPHA has begin a series of Friday morning webinars on various public health topics. We have done several over the summer related to the COVID-19 epidemic and response. We began posting our webinars beginning on October 23, 2020. We hope you enjoy them:

AzPHA Member Book Club

AZPHA would like to introduce a new program for its members in the interest of Professional Development: AzPHA’s Book and Journal Club.

We all read to keep up on our profession, some literature is required reading, other is discretionary. As a public health profession, it is important to keep certain topics front and center to make sure we are as informed as possible before the public debate or next health crises occurs.

The extent to which we stay up to date on issues through publications and books, complements the information already supplied through employer channels and regulatory/accrediting bodies.

Our virtual club will select an article or book to read together and discuss key subjects and themes in the content, and potential learnings upon completion.

We have created a discussion board within Basecamp for members to post comments virtually, moderated by the Director of Professional Development (Eric Tomlon). The goal will be to complete either one book per quarter, or one journal article per month pending consensus from the Club.

Mentorship Program

As a part of Arizona Public Health Association, Professional Development, we would like to extend again a Mentorship program. Our program facilitates the mentoring process among public health professionals, recent graduates, and current students/early careerists in Arizona for one year. The goals are:

Mentoring relationships are intended to help students make the transition from an academic to a professional environment and to offer an opportunity for professional development, networking, and an exchange of ideas between experienced professionals and the next generation of public health leaders.

Networking

AzPHA organizes regular opportunities for members and non-members to gather with others in the public health sector for fun and networking in the Central Phoenix area.

AzPHA Professional Learning Communities & Webinars

AzPHA has periodic "Breakfast & Learn: Events on various topics, some of which are recorded and posted to our blog under the Webinar tab. We have also developed some Professional Learning Communities in our Basecamp where members with similar interests can share information with one another, update each other about actions that state and federal agencies are taking (or not taking), and share best practices that influence public health.
