The Value of Prevention: How the Prevention and Public Health Fund Invests in Arizona’s Health
Could Congress’ health care debate lead to disease outbreaks in Arizona? A new report takes a dive into one of the hidden implications of the GOP’s health care proposals: eliminating the Prevention and Public Health Fund (PPHF). Established in 2010 as the nation’s first funding stream dedicated to improving public health, the PPHF invests over $9 million per year to protect Arizona from disease outbreaks and to reduce downstream health care costs. This report, published in partnership with the Arizona Public Health Association, examines the Fund’s investments in Arizona, which include immunizations, smoking cessation, diabetes prevention, opioid treatment, and more. As efforts to reform the U.S. health care system continue to evolve, this report serves to inform Arizona stakeholders and lawmakers about the PPHF and its investment in preventing health crises throughout our state.
