Committees – Get Involved with AzPHA

AzPHA Members are invited to get involved by joining one of our committees. Committees provide opportunities to contribute your expertise, connect with other public health professionals, and help advance AzPHA’s work throughout the year.

Professional Development

The Professional Development and Academic Relations Committee helps plan and coordinate professional development events for AzPHA members throughout the year. The committee works to develop engaging programs, identify speakers and topics and ensures that activities are available to members. Activities throughout the year include:

  • Professional Development Workshops

  • Lunch & Learn Webinars

  • Conference Breakouts

  • Student Poster Sessions

  • Mentorship Program

  • Networking Activities

Membership Committee

The Membership Committee develops strategies to recruit and retain members, and help ensure that membership provides meaningful value to AzPHA members. The committee is encouraged to work with the Executive Director to make recommendations to the Board and help develop membership materials and promote membership opportunities.

This committee may also arrange membership displays at meetings and other events where prospective AzPHA members may be reached.

Resolutions Committee

The Resolutions Commitee is responsible for coordinating the development, review and submission of resolutions on behalf of AzPHA.

APHA Resolutions: By the December or January Board meeting, the Committee notifies the Board of the deadline for submitting resolutions to the American Public Health Association (AzPHA), typically due in April. The committee also solicits suggestions for potential resolution topics.

Proposed resolutions are submitted to the AzPHA Board for approval before being forwarded to APHA.

AzPHA Resolutions: At least 90 days before the Annual meeting, the committee solicits proposed resolutions from the Board, members, and committee chairs. A noticed is distributed by email and posted on the AzPHA website.

The committee reviews and edits proposed resolutions and submits appropriate resolutions to the Board for approval. Approved resolutions are included in the materials for the Annual Meeting, where AzPHA members vote on them.

Conference Planning Committee

AzPHA’s Annual Conference is an important opportunity for members and non-members to connect, learn, and engage with the public health community.

With over 200 guests attending the Conference, the Committee works with AzPHA staff and Board to help develop conference content. Committee members contribute ideas for session topics, keynote topics, speakers, and other elements of the conference program.

Awards Committee

The Awards Committee coordinates the Annual AzPHA Awards program and recommends award recipients to the Board for approval.

Each summer, the committee issues a call for nominations to the public for awards in multiple categories. The committee reviews the nominations and selects one or more individuals for each award.
